As soon as she entered the living room, she noticed the mocking and contemptuous glances from the guests directed at her. However, because she was standing next to Maxim, they were significantly toned down.
Briana was calm, her face revealing no emotion.
Upon seeing Maxim, Zane hurriedly came forward with Mallory.
"Mr. Yoder, we didn't expect you to really come tonight! You truly brightened up our place!"
Briana glanced at Zane somewhat surprised, not expecting him to be such a brown-noser.
This time, Maxim didn't embarrass him, they chatted for a bit, all about the cooperation between the Yoder Group and the Schneider Group.
Briana showed no interest in this, said something to Maxim, and then turned to walk towards the dessert area.
Seeing that all the food prepared in the dessert area was what she had mentioned before, surprise flashed in Briana's eyes. How could Mallory have suddenly changed?
Just as I picked up a piece of fresh milk pudding, a mocking voice came from behind me.
"Only some people could stomach the food obtained through threats!"
Briana turned her head, seeing an unfamiliar socialite. She raised an eyebrow and asked, "Was that comment just now directed at me?"
The socialite sneered, "Is there anyone else here?"
The mocking and disdainful look from the other party left Briana baffled. She had intended to ignore her, but unexpectedly, this behavior only made the other party even angrier.
"Hey, Briana! Are you admitting to those disgraceful things you did behind our backs?"
Briana furrowed her brows, turning to the woman and coldly asked, "May I ask what unspeakable thing I have done?"
The woman didn't expect her to be so brazen. After a moment of stunned silence, she gritted her teeth and said, "Everyone knew about this birthday. You threatened Mrs. Schneider to only prepare the desserts you like, otherwise you wouldn't come back. Using this method to steal your sister's affection only makes you look more ridiculous!"
After listening, Briana finally remembered that this socialite had a sister who was frail and often ill. She had been raised in the countryside since she was a child and was only brought back home when she grew up. Because of guilt, her family wanted to compensate the elder daughter, so they occasionally neglected her.
So, was she empathizing with Kiley now?
Briana chuckled, speaking in an indifferent tone, "This seems to have nothing to do with you."
The woman sneered, "It indeed has nothing to do with me, but everyone present knows what you've done. If you can still eat, then you really have an incredibly thick skin!"
The next second, under her incredulous gaze, Briana directly swallowed the fresh milk pudding from the plate.
"What couldn't I eat? You actually believe such words, I'm starting to doubt your intelligence."
After speaking, Briana turned to leave, but was angrily blocked by that woman.
"Stop, everyone knows that Kiley's favorite is desserts made of chocolate. Today, none of the desserts are chocolate, isn't this the result of you threatening Mrs. Schneider?!"
No sooner had the words fallen than Kiley's voice sounded from the side.
"Miss Chen, please stop. Today was originally my sister's birthday. The things she likes and the things I like are the same. She just didn't know that I'm allergic to vanilla. If she knew, she definitely wouldn't have let mom prepare a vanilla cake."
Kiley stood to the side, her face full of innocence and kindness, seemingly unaware that her words would instantly thrust Briana into the eye of the storm.
Sure enough, Miss Chen became even more agitated upon hearing this, she pointed at Briana and angrily said, "Briana, you are so malicious!"
